Leviticus 8 — Sketch

Ordaining the Priests

Big Idea:

  • Everyone gathers at the tabernacle.

  • Moses washes Aaron and his sons and put the priestly clothes on them.

  • He uses oil to anoint Aaron and everything in the Tabernacle.

  • Aaron and his sons put their hands on a bull, and Moses sacrifices it, putting its blood on the horns of the altar. He burns its hide, flesh and intestines outside of camp.

  • Aaron and his sons put their hands on a ram, and Moses sacrifices it as well, splashing the blood against the sides of the altar.

  • Aaron and his sons put their hands on another ram, and Moses sacrifices it too.

  • Moses puts some blood on the right earlobes, right thumbs and right big toes of Aaron and his sons.

  • Moses offers a wave offering of bread.

  • He anoints Aaron and his sons with blood and oil.

  • Moses then instructs Aaron and his sons to eat some of the sacrificed bread and meat, and then stay at the Tabernacle for seven days.

Jesus:

  • There’s a lot of blood here. Blood on the altar, blood on the priests ear, thumb and toe, blood anointing. All of this symbolizes the blood of Christ, which washes away our sin.

  • The part about putting blood on head, hands and feet, tells us that Jesus blood cleanses our whole person — we are completely cleansed in Him.
