Exodus 25 — Thoughts

Is Jesus …Furniture?

Jesus can be found all over the Old Testament — even in the furniture. This chapter finds Him in the furnishings God ordered for the Tabernacle.

After giving instructions for the Ark of the Covenant, God tells the Israelites, “...over the ark of the covenant law, I will meet with you...” Centuries later, Matthew writes about Jesus, “‘...they will call him Immanuel’ (which means ‘God with us’).” God always intended to be with His people, and that desire was ultimately realized in Jesus.

The Tabernacle also had a table for the Bread of the Presence. Jesus told us that He was “the Bread of Life,” and He used bread in communion to illustrate His sacrifice for our sins.

Finally, the Tabernacle includes a seven-lighted lamp, foreshadowing Jesus’ words, “I am the light of the world.”

The redemption Jesus offers wasn’t God’s Plan B in the New Testament. It was His plan all along, and we can tell because there are symbols of the gospel of Jesus all over the Old Testament.
