Exodus 30 — Thoughts

God Is Just, but He’s Not Always “Fair”

When God tells Moses to collect funds for the Tabernacle from every Hebrew adult, He specifies, “The rich are not to give more than a half shekel and the poor are not to give less when you make the offering to the Lord to atone for your lives.”

Why would God command something seemingly so unfair? It’s because, as always, God is sending us a message.

One thing will “atone” for their lives. It doesn’t matter who they are, how deep their need, or how great their ability — the same thing will make the difference for everyone.

In this case, God is calling for a half-shekel. But this is an illustration of the real thing we all need.

Jesus is our one thing. No matter who we are, how deep our sin, or how great our effort — we all have the same need for Jesus to save us.

Jesus makes the same difference for everyone.
