Exodus 36 — Thoughts

How Much Is Enough?

Can you imagine a church asking people to stop donating? That’s what happened in this chapter. God’s people were so generous, Moses had to ask them to stop: “The people are bringing more than enough for doing the work the Lord commanded to be done.”

I wrote before about how the Israelites’ willing sacrifice to build the Tabernacle, the symbol of their relationship with God, foreshadowed Jesus’ willing sacrifice to die on the cross, the symbol of our own relationship with God.

Now, we have another parallel. The Israelites’ sacrifice was “more than enough.” So was Jesus’.

The book of Hebrews tells us that Jesus’ sacrifice was “once and for all.” No more is needed.

We don’t need to make our own sacrifices, atone for our sin, or do good deeds to make up for our wrongdoing. There is no shortage in Jesus’ sacrifice, no point at which we need to make up the difference, and no need to meet Him halfway.

What Jesus did for us is “more than enough.”
